What services are covered?
Personal Care Services include help with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), such as bathing, dressing, toileting, transferring, mobility assistance, and medication reminders. Light housekeeping is also available, but you must need assistance with at least one ADL to qualify. Housekeeping services include tidying up, dusting, vacuuming, sweeping, light mopping (up to 3 rooms), one load of laundry, making the bed, washing dishes, and taking out the trash. Visits are a minimum of 4 hours each. Please note: caregivers do not provide cleaning supplies—you'll need to have those on hand.
How do I start or renew services?
Call The Helper Bees at 888-491-5933. We'll verify your eligibility and create a referral in our system. Once a provider accepts your referral, they'll contact you directly to schedule your visits.
To qualify for Annual Personal Home Care Services or Post-Discharge benefits, you must need assistance with at least one Activity of Daily Living (ADL). These may include bathing, dressing, toileting, transferring, or mobility. To receive Post-Discharge benefits, you must also have been discharged from an inpatient facility within the past 30 days.
Who sets up services?
The Helper Bees will create your referral after verifying your eligibility and then send it to providers in your area. Once a provider accepts your referral, they'll contact you to schedule visits, and you'll work directly with them to coordinate each session.
Why can't a relative set up services for me?
We can only discuss account details and set up services with the enrolled member or someone with approved Point of Contact (POC) or Power of Attorney (POA) status. You can add a relative as an authorized contact — submit a request to get started.
How do I authorize someone else to access my account?
Submit a request to approve a Point of Contact (POC) or Power of Attorney (POA). We'll document their name and relationship to you. If you're unable to speak for yourself, POC/POA documentation can be submitted. A Humana representative can also help facilitate approval if you call them.
Can I choose or keep a specific provider?
We do our best to accommodate provider preferences whenever possible. If you'd like to continue with the same provider after a plan change or new referral, let us know — we'll note it in your referral for the provider to review.
How do I contact my provider or change providers?
Submit a request to receive your assigned provider's contact information after they've accepted your referral. If you'd like to change providers, let us know. We'll work to connect you with another agency in the network.
Can I get assistance in Spanish?
Yes! Spanish-speaking representatives are available. When you call The Helper Bees, you can request Spanish language support. You can also access translation services for other languages through our language line.
Can family members be paid as caregivers?
The Humana Annual and Post-Discharge programs work through our network of home care providers, which connects members to professional agencies rather than having their family members serve as paid caregivers. For questions about specific program options, contact Humana directly.
